ആയിരക്കണക്കിനവ വന്നുവീഴുന്നു ആയിരക്കണക്കിനവ ചെന്നിടിക്കുന്നു
ആയിരക്കണക്കിനവയുടെ കണ്ണുകളിരുട്ടടയ്ക്കുന്നു ആയിരക്കണക്കിനവ മൂർച്ഛിച്ചു വീഴുന്നു
ആയിരക്കണക്കിനവ ചാവുന്നു
വിളക്കുമാടം സൂക്ഷിപ്പുകാരനു സഹിക്കാവുന്നതല്ല ഇങ്ങനെയൊരു സംഗതി
അത്രമേൽ സ്നേഹമാണയാൾക്കു പക്ഷികളെ
അതിനാലയാൾ പറയുന്നു നാശം! ഇനിയിതു നിർത്താം!
അയാളൊക്കെയും കെടുത്തുന്നു
അകലെ ഒരു ചരക്കുകപ്പൽ തകരുന്നു
ഉഷ്ണമേഖലയിൽ നിന്നു വരുന്നൊരു ചരക്കുകപ്പൽ
നിറയെ പക്ഷികളുമായൊരു ചരക്കുകപ്പൽ
ഉഷ്ണമേഖലയിൽ നിന്നും ആയിരക്കണക്കിനു പക്ഷികൾ
ആയിരക്കണക്കിനു മുങ്ങിച്ചത്ത പക്ഷികൾ

THE LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER LOVES BIRDS TOO MUCH
Birds in their thousands fly toward the lights
in the thousands they fall in their thousands they crash
in their thousands blinded in their thousands stunned
in their thousands they die
The lighthouse keeper can’t stand that kind of thing
he loves birds too much
so he says Dammit! That does it!
And he turns off everything
In the distance a cargo ship is wrecked
a cargo ship coming from the tropics
a cargo ship loaded with birds
thousands of birds from the tropics
thousands of drowned birds.
