കാപ്പിക്കടയിലിരുന്നെഴുതുകയാണ്‌, ഒരു കവി.
വൃദ്ധ കരുതുന്നു,
അമ്മയ്ക്കു കത്തെഴുതുകയാണയാളെന്ന്.
ചെറുപ്പക്കാരി കരുതുന്നു,
കാമുകിയ്ക്കു കത്തെഴുതുകയാണയാളെന്ന്.
കുട്ടി കരുതുന്നു,
അയാളെന്തോ വരയ്ക്കുകയാണെന്ന്.
ബിസിനസ്സുകാരൻ കരുതുന്നു,
അയാളേതോ ഇടപാടിന്റെ കാര്യം നോക്കുകയാണെന്ന്.
വിനോദസഞ്ചാരി കരുതുന്നു,
അയാൾ പോസ്റ്റുകാർഡിലെഴുതുകയാണെന്ന്.
ജോലിക്കാരൻ കരുതുന്നു,
അയാൾ തന്റെ കടങ്ങൾ കണക്കു കൂട്ടുകയാണെന്ന്.
രഹസ്യപ്പോലീസുകാരൻ
അയാൾക്കടുത്തേക്ക് സാവധാനം നടന്നുചെല്ലുന്നു.

INTERPRETATIONS

A poet sits in a coffee shop, writing.
The old lady
thinks he is writing a letter to his mother,
the young woman
thinks he is writing a letter to his girlfriend,
the child
thinks he is drawing,
the businessman
thinks he is considering a deal,
the tourist
thinks he is writing a postcard,
the employee
thinks he is calculating his debts.
The secret policeman
walks, slowly, towards him.
