കൈകളിൽ ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന അഗ്നിഖഡ്ഗങ്ങളുമായി
നിന്റെ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയനഗരംകാവൽക്കാരെ നീ അയച്ചു,
നിന്റെ പറുദീസയിൽ നിന്നെന്നെ ആട്ടിയോടിക്കാൻ,
കരുണയില്ലാതെ, നീതിയില്ലാതെ, ലജ്ജയില്ലാതെ!

അറിയാത്ത ദേശങ്ങളിലേക്കെന്റെ സ്ത്രീയുമായി
ഒരു ദീർഘപ്രയാണത്തിനു ഞാനിറങ്ങുകയായി.
ജ്ഞാനവൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെ ഫലം ഞാൻ രുചിച്ചു:
ആ വസ്തുത നിഷേധിക്കാൻ നിനക്കാവില്ലല്ലോ.

ഞാനിന്നറിഞ്ഞതു കവരാനും നിനക്കാവില്ല:
അത്ര ദുർബലനാ,ണഗണ്യനാണു നീയെന്ന്,
സർവതിനുമുടയവനാണു താനെന്നു തെളിയിക്കാൻ
മരണത്തിലൂ,ടിടിമിന്നലിലൂടെ നീയെത്ര ശ്രമിച്ചാലും!

എത്ര നിന്ദ്യമായിപ്പോയി നിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തി ദൈവമേ,
അതിദാരുണമായ ഈ ഊരുവിലക്കൽ!
ലോകത്തിന്റെ പെരുമാളിനെത്രയും  ചേന്നതു തന്നെ
ഉജ്ജ്വലമായ ഈ വെളിപാടെന്നു ഞാൻ പറയും!

ഓർത്തു ഖേദിക്കില്ല ഞാൻ നിന്റെ സ്വർഗ്ഗത്തെ:
അത്ര കേമമൊന്നുമായിരുന്നില്ല ഏദൻ തോട്ടം.
യഥാർത്ഥത്തിലതു പറുദീസയുമായിരുന്നില്ല,
നിഷിദ്ധവൃക്ഷങ്ങൾ ചിലതതിലുണ്ടെന്നതിനാൽ.

പൂർണ്ണമെങ്കിലേ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യമെനിക്കവകാശമാവൂ!
അതിനൊരതിരു വയ്ക്കാനൊരാളുദ്യമിച്ചാൽ,
എത്ര ചെറുതെങ്കിലുമൊരു നിയന്ത്രണം ഞാനറിഞ്ഞാൽ
സ്വർഗ്ഗവുമെനിക്കു നരകമാവും, ഒരു തടവറയും!

You sent the divine gendarme
With his sword of flame;
You chased me out of Paradise entirely
With no justice, mercy or shame!
Towards other lands, with my wife,
I am embarking on a voyage;
However, you cannot alter the fact
That I enjoyed the fruit of Knowledge.
You cannot alter the fact that I know
How small and insignificant you are,
However important you try to make yourself,
Through death and through thunder.
Oh God! How pitiful I find
This Consilium abeundi, to be!
That's what I call a real Magnificus
Of the world, a Lumen mundi!
I shall certainly never miss
Paradise, as it was;
It wasn't a true Paradise:
It had forbidden trees.
I want my full rights of freedom!
If there is the slightest restriction,
For me, Paradise will turn
Into a hell, into a prison
